NOW I know why I was so compelled to cut and split all this firewood last spring, summer, and fall. This image shows less than half of my wood supply. This is one of the earliest, heaviest snowfalls we've ever had. Twenty inches. Who knows what's yet to come? Winter hasn't officially started yet.
You know, some birds, bugs, and animals adjust their behavior when they sense the upcoming winter is going to be tough. Maybe that's what happened to me?
As far as firewood around these parts, we don't have the great hardwoods that most other folks have, such as oak, maple, hickory, ash, etc. Here in northwest Wyoming, our only deciduous trees are aspen and cottonwood. Most of us burn Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce and other softwoods, which admittedly produce creosote in the chimney, but it is what it is. We have a chimney sweep who cleans the flue every year.
